Vander Plaats Visits Scott County

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Three republican governor hopefuls took the stage to share their ideas with Iowans Saturday afternoon. Former Governor Terry Branstad, businessman Bob Vander Plaats and State Representative Rod Roberts stopped by the Scott County Republican Convention at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds.

They’re unhappy with the way Governor Chet Culver is running the state and agree that a change needs to be made. Amy Gonzales of Davenport agrees. “It seems like there’s not a lot of listening to what the people want. A lot of government just making their decisions without listening to the people.”

Paul Hanson of Blue Grass doesn’t care which party takes the seat in Des Moines, as long as everyone’s voice is heard. “I don’t care whether it’s Republican or Democrat. I’m here as a Republican today, but I’m open to whoever’s going to step up, take care of our nation, put power back in the people’s hands and not in the government’s hands.”

Even though Branstad has a long track record in Iowa, people aren’t ruling out the other candidates. “We kind of want to hear everybody. We’re not making our minds up just yet,” says Phyllis Morrison of Davenport.

This is just one of many stops the candidates are making across the state. Chet Culver will face whoever Iowa picks in primary on June 8.
