Great Event in Ottumwa

The "Meet and Greet" event went very well on Wednesday in Ottumwa for Bob,
especially at short notice. The room was set up for 80 and a guy afterwards
said about 107 attended so it was very close quarters with some people
standing. They brought in 15 extra chairs but it got to the point there was
no real good place to set them. Some stood outside the room in the hall or
in the doorway. This room was a little larger than the Pizza Ranch rooms
they normally use. Since Ottumwa does not have a Pizza Ranch, I was able to
acquire this location and it seemed to work out well.
KTVO Television was there as well as the Ottumwa Courier and a couple other
media people I did not have a chance to meet. The TV Station did a real
good report on Bob with lots of footage at 10 PM tonight. Will have to see
what the newspaper does.!
Bob gave another tremendous speech, followed by a great mixture of questions
to which he gave very thorough and informative answers. Several other area
candidates were in attendance along with District 2 Candidates Christopher
Reed and Marianette Miller- Meeks.
I had the manager bring in 10 large pizzas in case people wanted a little
snack and then the waitresses provided drinks to whoever wanted them. I
noticed a number of new people who had not been able to see and hear Bob on
his previous visits to Ottumwa. People seemed to really enjoy themselves
and expressed an enthusiasm for Bob that you often don't see until much
closer to election day.
I also noticed that a very high percentage of people took literature and
wanted bumper stickers. I greeted virtually every person at the conclusion
of the event and would estimate 75-85 % of them took bumper stickers or some
sort of literature which was encouraging.
Bob Vander Plaats is the sort of gubernatorial candidate you may only see
run once in a lifetime. His integrity combined with his energy provides the
fuel that ignites this grassroots effort. I have yet to meet a person who
meets and hears Bob’s vision for Iowa and walks away unimpressed. I always
tell people that all they need to do is "meet and greet" - and they'll jump
in with both feet. It would appear he gained some more "jumpers" tonight
all the way from college age young people to a 95 year old gentleman that
informed me Bob "is his man all the way."
Thanks to all who invited people and helped spread the word. If you would
like to volunteer in some way here in the southern Iowa area, or if you
would be willing to place a yard sign in your lawn this spring, let me know
and I will see to it you get one.
